The Firehouse Restaurant Announces Change In Ownership

Sacramento Businessman, Lloyd Harvego Purchases Sacramento's Most Famous Restaurant

SACRAMENTO, CA (December 2, 1999) - The Firehouse Restaurant announced today that founder Newton Cope and his daughter, Catherine MacMillan, owner of the Firehouse for nearly 40 years, have sold the restaurant to Harvego Real Estate, LLC, a family-owned company headed by long time Sacramento businessman Lloyd Harvego. The transaction is effective immediately.

According to Catherine MacMillan, "The Firehouse has been in the family since my father opened the doors in 1960. It was a difficult decision to sell a business that has been a vital part of our family, as well as an important part of the Sacramento community for so long. However, since both my father and I live in the Bay Area, it has been difficult to spend as much time as we would like at the restaurant." MacMillan continued, "We were looking for a buyer who would maintain the wonderful staff and continue the fine reputation of the Firehouse. In addition, we wanted someone who could spend the time necessary to not only grow the restaurant, but also contribute to the development of Old Sacramento. We felt Mr. Harvego and his family were the ideal candidates."

Lloyd Harvego is a 35 year resident of Sacramento and frequent patron of the Firehouse. He was the principal owner of Resource Management International, Inc., a worldwide consulting firm headquarted in Sacramento, which merged with a publicly traded company in August 1997. Harvego left the company earlier this year to establish a venture capital firm that has invested in several companies in the Sacramento area. "I look forward to investing my time and energy into the Firehouse and working with the staff to build our reputation as Sacramento's premiere dining establishment," said Mr. Harvego.

Under the new ownership, the Firehouse senior management team will continue in their positions. They include Executive Chef, Raymond Salladarre; Banquet Manager, Mario Ortiz, a 28 year veteran of the Firehouse; Dining Room Manager Leo Palacios and Courtyard Manager, Rose Beltrami. Immediate plans for the restaurant include expanding the wine list to boast an impressive, as well as extensive inventory, and strategically planning for the restaurant's 40th anniversary celebration, tentatively scheduled for September 2000.

For nearly 40 years, the Firehouse has been the restaurant of choice for countless governors, politicians, diplomats, celebrities and generations of Sacramentans. The splendid ambiance of the Firehouse is enhanced by its reputation for excellence in food, wine, and hospitality. The Firehouse has received numerous awards including; the California Restaurant Association's Five-Star Award, the Wine Spectator Magazine's Award of Excellence and Sacramento Magazine's First Choice Award.
